Explored a new trail today in this January heat wave. The intensely bright sun accentuated the colors and textures of the indigenous grasses and shrubs in these rambling, un-manicured hills. Rare to find an active stream in this area, but here, the jungly tangle of dead and fallen trees, softly rippling water, tumbleweeds and untrimmed palms remind me of my childhood expeditions, discovering little wonders in all the beautiful chaos of nature at its wildest.
